Burkina Faso introduces a law allowing prisoners to work in agricultural sector, and in return, their sentences reduced
Burkina Faso has introduced a prison reform that allows inmates and those awaiting sentences to work in the agricultural sector for reduced sentences. Under the new law, each month of agricultural labor equates to a three-month reduction in an inmate’s sentence. This move aims to rehabilitate prisoners, boost agricultural productivity, and align the justice system with indigenous values. The initiative also addresses domestic production and food insecurity by utilizing inmate labor. #DWAfrica
