Celebrating Excellence: ICC and Edo Sports Commission Applaud Uyi Akpata’s Sportsville Award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Edo State Sports Commission have extended their congratulations to Dr. Uyi Akpata, President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, on his nomination for the Sportsville Sports Personality of the Year award. The ceremony is scheduled for April 3, 2025, at the Eko Club in Surulere, Lagos.


Acting Regional Manager for Africa at the ICC, Justine Ligyalingi, commended Dr. Akpata’s leadership, highlighting his pivotal role in the significant growth of cricket in Nigeria. Ligyalingi noted that under Akpata’s guidance, the Nigerian U-19 Women’s team achieved a historic performance at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia earlier this year. He emphasized that Akpata’s dedication and strategic vision continue to shape the future of cricket in Nigeria and beyond. 


Desmond Enabulele, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, praised the organizers of the Sportsville Special Recognition Award for acknowledging Akpata’s contributions. Enabulele remarked that Akpata has not only revitalized cricket in Nigeria but has also elevated its profile on the global stage, making the sport a viable option for many young Nigerians. He expressed pride in having Akpata serve as the Chairman of the Edo State Cricket Association, commending his visionary leadership. 


Dr. Akpata’s nomination has garnered widespread acclaim from both national and international figures. Senator John Owan Enoh, Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, stated that the recognition by Sportsville is a testament to Akpata’s impactful work in advancing cricket within the country. He assured continued support from the ministry to ensure the sport’s ongoing development. 


Patricia Kambarami, International Cricket Development Manager in Africa, also extended her congratulations, acknowledging Akpata’s remarkable contributions to cricket’s growth in Nigeria and across West Africa. She highlighted his dedication and efforts in elevating the sport’s profile in the region. 


Dr. Uyi Akpata serves as a board member of the Edo State Sports Commission and as Chairman of the Edo State Cricket Association. His leadership has been instrumental in the development and success of cricket in Nigeria, making his recognition by Sportsville a well-deserved honor.

  Gabriel Jesus netted a brace as Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace 5-1 in Saturday’s Premier League game. GOOGLE REJECTS BID TO SELL CHROME BROWSER, PROPOSES LICENSING RESTRICTION.

Google late Friday countered a US call to sell its Chrome browser, suggesting a judge address antitrust concerns by barring the firm from making favourable treatment of its software a condition of licensing. Google filed a 12-page proposed order banning the internet giant from requiring favourable distribution or treatment of its software on mobile devices as a condition of licensing popular apps like Chrome, Play or Gemini. In contrast, the US government in November asked a judge to order the dismantling of Google by selling its widely used Chrome browser in a major antitrust crackdown on the company.
