Police operatives of the Enugu State Command, attached to the Umumba Division, in the early hours of May 27, 2025, at about 3:15 a.m., in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch personnel and vigilant community members, successfully rescued a 13-year-old girl (name withheld), allegedly kidnapped for ritual murder, at Umuojor village in Ishiagu community of Ezeagu Local Government Area.  The operation also led to the arrest of three male suspects connected to the crime, namely: Uche Kingsley Agumba, aged 33; Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, aged 36; and Ejike Odinwankpa, aged 38. Edo records pilgrim fatality in Makkah

  Edo State has recorded its first casualty among pilgrims participating in the ongoing 2025 Hajj in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The deceased, Mrs Dazumi Adizatu, a 75-year-old pilgrim from Jattu, Uzairue, in Etsako West Local Government Area, passed away on Monday May 26, 2025, at King Fahad General Hospital in Makkah after a brief illness. Her death was confirmed in the morning of Tuesday May 27, 2025, by the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mallam Musah Muhammad Uduimoh, via a WhatsApp voice note. According to Mallam Uduimoh, Mrs Adizatu took ill after performing the Tawaaf on Sunday May 25 and was subsequently hospitalised. She died the following day (Monday) In line with Islamic burial rites, she was laid to rest in Makkah on the evening of the same day she passed. Four Nigerian stowaways were rescued on the Atlantic Ocean after being thrown overboard by the crew of a foreign vessel.

  The young men, seeking to escape Nigeria’s economic challenges, had boarded the ship in secret with hopes of reaching foreign shores.   The crew of the vessel, upon discovering the stowaways, allegedly responded with violence, casting the men into the open sea.   The situation could have ended in tragedy were it not for the swift intervention of a maritime logistics company owned by a France-based Ekiti-born business mogul, Mr Harrison Niyi Alonge.   The public relations officer of the firm, Olawale Ezekiel, made this known in a statement to journalists on Thursday, May 22, 2025.    “The crew, led by a captain, detected suspicious movement in the waters and quickly raised the alarm.   The Akwa Ibom Police Command has apprehended seven suspects allegedly involved in a notorious burglary syndicate operating in Ifa Atai Village, Uyo metropolis. This was disclosed in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Timfon John, on Thursday in Uyo. According to John, on Wednesday, May 21, at approximately 8 a.m., acting on credible intelligence, the police arrested a male suspect residing in Ibiaku Ishiet Village, Uruan Local Government Area. Lagos seeks justice for 3,215 abused children in 2024

  The Lagos State Government has intensified its fight against violence and abuse of children as data from the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency revealed that 3,215 children were subjected to various forms of abuse between January and December 2024. The figure, exclusively obtained by  PUNCH Metro  on Wednesday, showed that of the total 9,279 domestic violence cases reported in the year under review, children accounted for over a third of the survivors. The remaining 6,064 were adult male and female victims. Findings showed that the nature of abuse included sexual assault, emotional abuse, and other forms of domestic violence. According to the DSVA, a majority of the perpetrators, about 2,708 in total, were relatives or individuals known to the victims, while only 250 cases involved strangers. Mexican President says she is “saddened” by "unfortunate accident"

  Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum sent her condolences to families of the two crew members killed when a Mexican Navy sailing ship struck the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of two crew members of the Cuauhtémoc Training Ship, who lost their lives in the unfortunate accident in New York Harbor. Our sympathy and support go out to their families,” Sheinbaum said in a post on X early Sunday. Sheinbaum said the Mexican Navy is supporting those injured in the incident, and that the Mexican ambassador to the United States and Mexican Consulate General were supporting the navy. “We are monitoring the situation, and the Secretary of the Navy will continue to provide updates,” she added. Mexico’s US ambassador was at the scene alongside New York officials late Saturday after the Cuauhtémoc struck the Brooklyn Bridge.
