The Wedding That Never Happened

We had picked a date.

Booked the hall.
Sent out the invites.

My dress was already hanging in the closet.
His suit was tailored.
We were just weeks away from saying, “I do.”

Then one night, I picked up his phone.
No suspicion.
Just a casual moment — his phone buzzed, and he was in the shower.

I wish I never looked.

Messages from someone saved as “Electrician.”
But electricians don’t send photos in lingerie.
They don’t say “last night was magic.”
They don’t say, “does she suspect anything yet?”

My hands shook.
I remember walking to the bathroom and handing him the phone.
No screaming.
No drama.

Just silence.

He tried to explain.
He said it meant nothing.
He said it was just stress.
He said I was overreacting.

But how do you marry someone already living a lie?

I canceled everything.
Called the vendors.
Texted the guests.
Returned the dress.

Everyone asked what happened.
I just said, “the wedding’s off.”

Some people said I was too harsh.
Others said I was brave.

But deep down, I knew —
Better to cancel a wedding than endure a lifetime of betrayal.
